Tour d'Italia - Muggia

On the second day of our visit in Trieste we went on the boat to the nearby town Muggia that has a border with Slovenia. It was like taking a bus only on the water, no seat belts but no champagne and strawberries either. I mean it's a public transport and not posh cruise but that's how it felt to me because i don't live by the sea and taking boat it's not one of my everyday activities.

Muggia seemed like a quite and cozy town with small town square where children and parents were playing football, old ladies enjoying the sun and tourists having an afternoon drink or a few while charging a camera battery that suddenly went flat... Thanks to the lovely waitress that done a massive favor for me otherwise this entry would miss few piccies. Ice cubes, slice of orange and few Martinis that's what it takes to get your camera back on track. And tips (obviously!). It's very interesting that  every time you order drinks they bring you snacks. In a bar you can get a bowl of crisps, in a restaurant you could get some baguette and ham, I've seen people having olives and gherkins too - fabulous isn't it?

Tour d'Italia - Trieste

  • Escaping rainy and windy Britain? Tick!
  • Going somewhere nice and warm? (I meant HOT) Tick!
  • Getting tiny tan? (achievable in 3 days) Tick!
  • Eating as much ice - cream as your purse allows? Tick!
  • Having pica take away? (and i don't mean Domino's) Tick!
  • Relax and go with the flow? Tick!

Trieste

A little getaway to Italy seemed just perfect choice of timing when I was so busy getting ready 2 portfolios and a record book done for the course I'm doing. NOT! Yeah, and then my cold blooded character took it over and i had a super break from the sickly routine.

It started with Trieste in northeast of Italy a very chilled out city I thought. Yes, I didn't know about it until Ryanair had a very not-expensive flight over there. It has a night life, seaside, not crammed (probably we were lucky for that), it's also a seaport, you know with seagulls and boats.

Documentary photography

Mr. John Kettle
I got very into the research of documentary photography while doing my assignment for college. Funny, but documentary photography is not that much different to street photography even Henri Cartier - Bresson is classified for both styles. Initially my heart was on the street photography but for some reason now i prefer the documentary one. I think it's because it might have more meaning to it. Street photography is just snaps on the street of events that were lucky to happen when you were marching absent minded or with purpose.

I chose American photographer Mike Brodie also known as The Polaroid Kidd and also described as the accidental documentary photographer that took pics while traveling all around America on the trains, living rough, photographing same kind of people. I thought - Snap! I suppose to understand documentary photography all of the sudden and so i have to be one. Polaroid? Oh, yes! Bring it on! Yeah, I don't know people that live rough and i don't have time to look for them but i had a lot of pictures that were taken of elderly people including my very own grandma who looks just gorgeous and so photogenic on camera. At the end of the day i can choose my own topic and do in style of someone, right?
